Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated at the conference that building an equitable and orderly multipolar world should be the shared responsibility of all countries. Major powers, with more resources and greater capabilities, ought to show broader vision and responsibility, take the lead in abiding by rules, honoring commitments and observing the rule of law. China is ready to continue acting as a constructive force in a changing world and work with all countries to jointly embrace the advent of a multipolar world.
Zero Tariffs to Provide Opportunities for Africa
Wang Yi announced that China will fully implement zero tariffs on 100% of tariff lines for products from African countries starting May 1. Boosted by China’s high-level opening-up, China will use tariff “subtraction” to promote trade “addition” and achieve livelihood “multiplication”, enabling China’s large market to deliver greater opportunities to Africa.
On China-Latin America Cooperation: Friendship Choices Rest with Latin American Countries
Wang Yi pointed out that the international arena in the 21st century should not repeat the old scenarios of the 19th century. Resources in Latin America belong to the Latin American people. The development paths that Latin American countries take and the partners they make friends with should be determined by the Latin American people themselves.
Over the past half century and more, the reason why China-Latin America relations have developed rapidly lies in the fact that China has always respected the Latin American people, adhered to treating Latin American countries as equals and pursuing mutual benefit and win-win results. China never engages in geopolitical calculations, never interferes in other countries’ internal affairs, and never asks others to take sides.
Global South Is Key Driving Force for World Multipolarity
Wang Yi noted that the collective rise of the Global South is a distinctive hallmark of the profound changes taking place in the world. Over the past four decades, the Global South’s share of the global economic aggregate has risen from 24 percent to over 40 percent, becoming a key driving force advancing the process of world multipolarity.
China has always cared about and stood firmly with the Global South, and stands ready to work with other Southern countries to forge ahead side by side on the path of modernization and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
